Hendricks County Friends of the Shelter

Help us manage where our donations go

Hendricks County Friends of the Shelter was formed to assist in the building of a new shelter and to assist in the welfare of the pets in Hendricks County, Indiana.   The Hendricks County Animal Control (HCAC) will receive donations in the form of gifted items.  i.e. buy vaccinations, a bank of cat cages or large cage doors, traps, beds, specialized finishing of the shelter such as walls and floors, etc.

Friends of the Shelter will be hosting their own fundraising events where the proceeds will go to HCAC to benefit the animals.  Events such as a yearly dog walk will most likely fund big purchases and reoccurring events such as our monthly microchip clinic will fund immediate day to day needs.

·  The goal is to start out with purchasing small attainable needs such as vaccinations for the animals currently in the shelter, cages that can be reinstalled into the new shelter, microchips etc.   Accomplishing small goals are very important to build a trust within the community that the money will be used for the animals now

The Hendricks County Animal Control may refer other organizations to us or the organizations may come directly to Friends of the Shelter to help protect the shelter’s interest during their fundraising event.   Friends of the Shelter may help plan, provide volunteers, receive the proceeds and discuss exactly what is needed and will be purchased for the Hendricks County Animal Control on their behalf according to what is donated.

  • If a very large donation is given to the organization, it will be used for the NEW shelter.  i.e.  Short term –   Banks of kennels and cages, upgrades such as textured walls and flooring, bedding, grooming equipment, etc.  Long term - veterinarian equipment, mobile disaster carrier units, additional building wings to the shelter, facilities for animals other than dogs and cats such as livestock rescues.
